REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION (Continued)
(11) M o u n t clutch assembly
on
flywheel,
being
careful to properly align dowels and the alignment
marks made before removal. I f new clutch or
fly-
wheel is installed, align cover balance spot as close
as possible to flywheel balance orange spot. Apply
pressure to the alignment tool. L i g h t l y t i g h t e n the
clutch cover bolts enough to hold the disc i n position.
(12) To avoid distortion of the clutch cover (pres-
sure plate), t i g h t e n bolts a few turns at a time. Use a
crisscross pattern u n t i l bolts are a l l seated. Then
tighten bolts to 30 N - m (270 i n . lbs.). Remove clutch
disc alignment tool.
(13) I n s t a l l bell housing to engine.
(14) Install transmission into vehicle.
RELEASE BEARING/HYDRAULIC SLAVE CYLINDER
REPLACEMENT
The transmission must be removed from the vehi-
cle to replace the hydraulic r a m assembly (Fig. 5).
The bearing and slave cylinder are serviced together
as an assembly. Do not attempt to separate the bear-
i n g from the slave cylinder.

REMOVAL
(1) Raise vehicle on hoist.
(2) Disconnect hydraulic line from hydraulic slave
cylinder. Use the quick disconnect tool (special tool
6638) to open the coupling.
(3) Remove transmission assembly from the vehi-
cle. Refer to (Group 21) for transmission removal pro-
cedure.
(4) Remove slave cylinder from transmission.
INSTALLATION
(1) To install, reverse above procedure.
CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER ••
REMOVAL
(1) Remove master cylinder actuation rod to clutch
pedal clip.
(2) Disconnect clutch pedal position switch connec-
tor.
(3) Remove m o u n t i n g screws on clutch fluid reser-
voir.
(4) Disconnect
hydraulic
line
quick
connector
located at clutch bell housing. Use special tool 6638
to separate quick connector.

(5) Twist clutch master cylinder a quarter t u r n
counterclockwise to remove from toe box.
(6) Remove assembly from vehicle.
INSTALLATION
(1) To install new clutch master cylinder, reverse
removal procedure.
PILOT BEARING REPLACEMENT
REMOVAL
(1) Remove transmission assembly from the vehi-
cle. Refer to (Group 21) for transmission removal pro-
cedure.
(2) Remove clutch cover and disc.
(3) Remove the pilot bearing. Use an i n t e r n a l
puller and slide hammer i f the bearing proves diffi-
cult to remove.
INSTALLATION
(1) Lubricate the new bearing w i t h Mopar h i g h
temperature wheel bearing grease.
(2) Insert the new bearing into the engine crank-
shaft by hand or w i t h a clutch alignment tool.
(3) I n s t a l l the clutch disc and cover as outlined i n
this section.
(4) I n s t a l l transmission assembly into the vehicle.
Refer to (Group 21) for transmission installation pro-
cedure.
CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION SWITCH
REMOVAL
(1) Disconnect the clutch pedal position switch
connector.
(2) Disconnect the clutch actuation rod from the
clutch pedal.
(3) Remove the clutch master cylinder from the toe
box. This is done by gently t w i s t i n g the clutch mas-
ter cylinder counter clockwise.
