TIRE ROTATION
This model year Viper original equipment
tires
have a non-directional tread pattern, and the wheels
are also not directional. Due to this fact, the tires can
be rotated from side to side. But, due to the different
size wheels and tires, front to rear, on the vehicle,
the tires cannot be rotated from front to rear and
vice-versa.
REPAIRING TIRE LEAKS
For proper repairing, a radial t i r e must be removed
from the wheel and repaired (patched)
from
the
inside of the tire. Repairs should only be made i f the
defect, or puncture, is i n the tread area (Fig. 7) of the
tire. The t i r e should be replaced i f the puncture is
located i n the sidewall.
Deflate tire completely before dismounting the tire
from the wheel. Use a lubricant such as a m i l d soap
solution when dismounting or mounting the
tire.
When dismounting the tire from the r i m , only use
tools free of burrs or sharp edges w h i c h could dam-
age the t i r e or the wheel.
Before mounting the tire on the wheel, make sure
all d i r t and/or oxidation is removed from the bead of
the wheel .
I n s t a l l the wheel and tire on the vehicle, and pro-
gressively tighten a l l 5 wheel nuts to a torque of 122
N-m (90 ft. lbs.).

TIRE AND WHEEL MATCH MOUNTING
Wheels and tires are match mounted at the factory.
This means t h a t the h i g h spot of the t i r e is matched
to the low spot on the wheel r i m . This technique is
used to reduce run-out i n the wheel/tire assembly.
The h i g h spot on the t i r e is marked w i t h a paint
m a r k or a b r i g h t colored adhesive label on the out-
board sidewall. The low spot on the r i m is identified
w i t h a label on the outside of the r i m and a dot or
line on the inside of the r i m . I f the outside label has
been removed the t i r e w i l l have to be removed to
locate the dot or line on the inside of the r i m .
Before dismounting a tire from its wheel, a refer-
ence m a r k should be placed on the t i r e at the valve
stem location. This reference w i l l ensure t h a t i t is
remounted i n the original position on the wheel.
(1) Measure the total indicator runout on the cen-
ter of the t i r e tread r i b . Record the indicator reading.
M a r k the t i r e to indicate the h i g h spot. Place a m a r k
on the t i r e at the valve stem location (Fig. 8).

Break down the tire and remount i t 180
degrees on the r i m (Fig. 9).
(3) Measure the total indicator runout again. M a r k
the t i r e to indicate the h i g h spot.
(4) I f runout is s t i l l excessive, the following proce-
dures must be done.
• I f the h i g h spot is w i t h i n 102 m m (4.0 in.) of the
first spot and is still excessive, replace the tire.
• I f the h i g h spot is w i t h i n 102 m m (4.0 in.) of the
first spot on the wheel, the wheel may be out of spec-
ifications. Refer to Wheel and Tire Runout.
