(7) Remove the jounce bumper and-plastic collar
from the shaft of the, shock absorber (Fig. 86).

(8) Inspect the shock absorber for any condition of
shaft
binding over the full
stroke of the shock
absorber shaft.
(9) Inspect the components of the shock absorber
for the following:
• Shock absorber upper and lower isolator bush-
ings for damage or deterioration.
• Inspect the coil spring for any sign of damage
and replace i f required.
• Inspect the jounce bumper for cracks and signs
of deterioration.
• Inspect the plastic collar for cracks and signs of
deterioration.
(10) Replace any components of the shock absorber
assembly found to be w o r n or defective d u r i n g the
inspection, before assembling the shock absorber.
ASSEMBLY
(1) I n s t a l l the plastic collar and jounce bumper on
the shaft of the shock absorber. The jounce bumper
must be installed w i t h the tapered end down (Fig.
86).

s o it fits t h e lower s p r i n g s e a t w h i l e t h e flat c o i l e n d
of t h e s p r i n g p o i n t s u p , s o it will p r o p e r l y fit a g a i n s t
the s p r i n g u p p e r s e a t .
(2) I n s t a l l the coil spring on the shock absorber. Be
sure the end of the bottom coil is seated correctly on
the spring seat of the shock absorber (Fig. 87).

(3) I n s t a l l
the spring compressor
on the
coil
spring.
(4) Compress the coil spring enough to allow the
upper seat for the coil spring to be installed on the
coil spring at the top of the shock absorber (Fig. 85).
(5) Position the upper seat on the coil spring so
the end of the upper coil is not positioned at the cut-
out i n the upper seat (Fig. 88).
(6) Relieve a l l tension from the spring compressor.
After a l l spring tension has been remove from the
spring compressor, remove i t from the coil spring.
(7) I n s t a l l the shock absorber back i n the vehicle.

the service manual for the proper procedure.
