FRONT SUSPENSION OESCHPIiON
The Viper uses a short and long a r m design, inde-
pendent suspension, on the front of the vehicle (Fig.
1). The upper and lower control arms are attached to
steering knuckles using conventional style ball joints.
On the front suspension, the steering a r m of the
steering knuckle is forward of the front wheel center-
line. The front steering knuckles are attached to the
vehicles steering rack by conventional style b a l l j o i n t
outer tie rod ends. The upper
control arms are
mounted to the front upper frame r a i l of the vehicle
using a pivot bar. The upper control a r m is mounted
to the pivot bar using 2 rubber isolator bushings. The
lower control a r m is mounted to the front lower
frame r a i l of the vehicle using attaching brackets.
The lower control a r m is mounted to the attaching
brackets using rubber isolator bushings and 2 t h r u -
bolts.
SHOCK ABSORBER
The Viper uses a combined shock
absorber/coil
spring assembly (Fig. 2 ) on the front suspension. The
shock absorber is supplied by K o n i . This type of
shock
absorber
assembly
has the vehicles
front
springs mounted on the shock absorber. The shock
absorber is mounted to the lower control a r m and the
upper frame r a i l of the vehicle. The shock absorber
provides the control for both the jounce and rebound
control of the vehicle, by being hydraulically cali-
brated to use on this vehicle. The shock absorber is
also used to control the jounce and rebound travel of
the suspension. The upper spring seat is removable,
thus allowing removal of the coil spring.
