f o r m i n g a n y of t h e following t e s t s .
(1) Connect a volt-ampere tester (Fig. 2) to the
battery terminals (Fig. 3). Refer to the operating
instructions provided w i t h the tester being used.
(2) Disconnect the Automatic Shut Down (ASD)
relay, and the ignition and fuel system w i l l be dis-
abled. The ASD is located i n the Power Distribution
Center (PDC). Refer to the PDC cover or W i r i n g Dia-
grams 8W-11 Power Distribution for location of the
relay.

(3) Verify t h a t a l l lights and accessories are OFF,
and set p a r k i n g brake.
(4) Rotate and hold the ignition switch i n the
START position. Observe the volt-ampere tester (Fig.
4).
• I f voltage reads above 9.6 volts, and amperage
draw reads above 250 amps, go to the Starter Feed
Circuit Resistance Test.
• I f voltage reads 12.4 volts or greater and amperage
reads 0 to 10 amps, go to Starter Control Circuit Test.

STARTER FEED CIRCUIT RESISTANCE TEST
Before proceeding w i t h this operation, review Diag-
nostic Preparation and Starter Feed Circuit Tests.
The following operation w i l l require a voltmeter,
accurate to one t e n t h of a volt.

(1) Disconnect the Automatic Shut Down (ASD)
relay to disable fuel and ignition system. The ASD is
located i n the Power Distribution Center (PDC).
Refer to PDC cover or w i r i n g Diagrams 8W-11 Power
Distribution for location. Refer to Group 8D, Ignition
for more A S D information.
(2) W i t h

components
properly connected, perform the following:
(a) Connect the negative lead of the voltmeter to
the battery negative t e r m i n a l , and positive lead to
the battery negative cable clamp (Fig. 5). Rotate
and hold the ignition switch i n the START posi-
tion. Observe the voltmeter. I f voltage is detected,
correct poor contact between cable clamp and post.
