DIAGNOSIS AND T E S T I N G (Continued)
(4) Using reading, estimate if gauge and reading
are near each other. I f fuel is added the ohms will
decease. I f the reading shows that a improper signal
is being sent from the fuel sensor it will need to be
tested. Refer to Group 14, Fuel.
W0LT1ETER:
(1) Using voltmeter, connect one lead to ground
and other lead to Pin 3 of the gauge wire harness
connector. Check generator output, refer to Group
8C, Generator.
(2) Ignition switch in the O N position, and the
engine
not
running, battery
voltage
should
be
present.
(3) Ignition switch in the O N position and with the
engine running, the generator output voltage should
be more than battery voltage. I f OK, test voltmeter.
If not O K , check generator, if O K , repair circuit as
necessary.
HEADLAMP SWITCH
(1) Remove headlamp switch, refer to Switch/Lamp
Replacement for removal (Fig. 8).
(2) Using a ohmmeter
check headlamp switch.
Check for continuity between Pins:
(a) Turn switch to the park position and check
Pin 3 to Pin 11.
(b) Turn switch to the headlamp O N position
and check Pin 11 to Pin 12.
(c) Pull switch knob to the fog lamp position
with the park or headlamps in the O N position.
Check Pin 8 to Pin 10.
(d) Park or headlamps in the ON position, check
Pin 7 to Pin 9.
(3) I f no continuity, replace headlamp switch. I f
OK, check headlamp relay, circuit and repair as nec-
essary, refer to Group 8W, Wiring Diagrams.

LOW OIL PRESSURE WARNING LAMP TEST
The engine warning lamp will illuminate when the
ignition key is turned to the O N position. The lamp
also illuminates when the engine oil pressure drops
below a safe oil pressure level.
To test the system, turn the ignition key to the O N
position. I f the lamp fails to light, inspect for broken
or disconnected wires at the oil pressure sensor unit
located at the front of the engine (Fig. 9).

MESSAGE CENTER TEST
(1) Warning lamps come on when the
ignition
switch is first turned to the O N position and will
remain O N for a few seconds to confirm lamps are
working.
(2) I f any lamps do not light, remove message cen-
ter. Check lamps and replace as necessary. Refer to
Message Center Replacement for removal.
(3) I f none of the lamps light, Remove the message
center and inspect printed circuit board. Pay special
attention to area in (Fig. 10) where the arrow is
pointing. I f O K go to next step. I f not, replace mes-
sage center.
(4) I f lamp(s) are always O N or lighting when they
should not, test the sending units and wiring. Refer
to 8W, Wiring Diagrams.
