Before removing steering wheel from steering
column, position the front wheels
of the vehicle
straight ahead.
(2)
Disconnect the negative (-) cable from the bat-
tery and isolate the cable.
(3) Wait for a m i n i m u m of 2 m i n u t e s before
starting to remove air bag f r o m steering w h e e l .
This will allow the airbag system capacitor to
de-energize.

U L E IS PLACED O N A B E N C H O R O T H E R SUR-
F A C E , PLASTIC COVER SHOULD BE F A C E UP TO
M I N I M I Z E MOVEMENT
IN CASE O F ACCIDENTAL
DEPLOYMENT

Remove the airbag module (Fig. 10) from the
steering wheel. The air bag is mounted to the steer-
ing wheel using a m o u n t i n g bolt located i n each
spoke of the steering wheel. Access to the m o u n t i n g
bolts is from the back side of the steering wheel.

Disconnect the electrical connector from
the
airbag module (Fig. 11). Then disconnect the w i r i n g
lead for the h o r n switch i n the airbag module from
the clockspring w i r i n g lead (Fig. 11).

Remove the steering wheel r e t a i n i n g n u t (Fig.
12).
