I n s t a l l the steering knuckle on the stud of the
upper ball j o i n t . Loosely i n s t a l l the attaching n u t on
the ball j o i n t (Fig. 63).

I n s t a l l outer tie rod onto steering knuckle.
I n s t a l l tie rod to steering knuckle attaching n u t .
Tighten the tie rod attaching n u t to a torque of 52
N-m (38 ft. lbs.). I n s t a l l the cotter p i n i n stud of tie
rod end (Fig. 57).
(4) Tighten the upper b a l l j o i n t stud attaching n u t
to a torque of 115 N - m (85 ft. lbs.) (Fig. 63). A f t e r

(10) I n s t a l l the brake caliper attaching bolts (Fig.
55) and t i g h t e n to a torque of 115 N - m (85 ft. lbs.).
(11) A l i g n the brake hose bracket w i t h the hole i n
steering knuckle. I n s t a l l the mounting bolt for the
hub/bearing
(Fig. 54).
Tighten
the
hub/bearing
mounting bolt to a torque of 61 N - m (45 ft. lbs.).

I n s t a l l the wheel and tire. Tighten the wheel
mounting stud nuts i n proper sequence u n t i l a l l nuts
are torqued to h a l f specification. Then repeat the
tightening sequence to the full specified torque of 122
N - m (90 ft. lbs.).

Lower the vehicle.

I n s t a l l the front and rear Vehicle Height
Checking Fixtures, Special Tools 6914, on the front
and rear wheel flanges, and measure the vehicle's
curb height. See Curb Height Checking and Setting
Procedure i n this group of the service manual for
special tool installation.
(15) I f the vehicle is at the correct curb height,
proceed to Step 17. I f the vehicle is not at the correct
curb height, the design height of the vehicle must be
set. Refer to the procedure listed i n Design Height
Setting Procedure i n this group of the service man-
ual.
(16) Recheck the vehicle to be sure i t is at the cor-
rect curb height prior to setting the static toe of the
front wheels.
(17)
Check and adjust the vehicle static wheel toe
position. Refer to the service procedure i n Wheel
Alignment i n this group of the service manual for
static wheel toe position adjustment.
HUB/BEARING
The front hub/bearing used on the Viper is.service-
able only as a complete assembly. No attempt should
ever be made to disassemble a front hub/bearing i n
an effort to repair i t .
Replacement of the front hub/bearing can be done
w i t h o u t having to remove the steering knuckle from
the vehicle.
REMOVE
(1)
Raise vehicle on jackstands or centered on a
frame contact type hoist. See Hoisting i n the L u b r i -
cation and Maintenance section of this manual for
the required lifting procedure to be used for this
vehicle.
(2)
Remove front wheel and t i r e assemblies.
