(5) W i t h the case spread .010 inches, remove the
dial indicator and t h e n install differential into the
differential carrier (Fig. 16).
(8) Install output shafts into carrier. Install output
shaft snap rings (Fig. 18).

(6) Remove spreader from carrier.
(7) Note the markings stamped on the bearing
caps (Fig. 17) so t h a t the caps can be installed i n the
same position as they were removed. Install bearing
cap bolts.

(9) Install rear axle cover plate.

initial installation. T h e s e s c r e w s m u s t be r e p l a c e d
with n e w p i e c e s or c l e a n e d a n d L o c t i t e t h r e a d
l o c k e r r e a p p l i e d w h e n e v e r t h e y a r e r e m o v e d .
C A U T I O N : R e p l a c e both drive shaft a n d a x l e s h a f t
u n i v e r s a l joint s t r a p s w h e n e v e r they a r e r e m o v e d .
T h e s t r a p s slightly deform w h e n t o r q u e d in p l a c e .

(10) Install the rear axle into the vehicle.
(11) Remove fill plug located on side of the differ-
ential carrier. F i l l the fluid to level. F i l l axle w i t h
Mopar H i g h Performance Synthetic Axle Lube SAE
75W140 (MS-8985). A container of Mopar Gear Addi-
tive (friction modifier) should also be added after a
lubricant change.
(12) Lower vehicle to ground.
