(2) Using a 1/2 i n . wide metal ruler, measure the
distance from the cam gear to the face of the sensor
mounting hole opening on the t i m i n g gear, cover.
(3) I f the dimension is approximately 1-15/32
inches, i t is O K to i n s t a l l sensor.
(4) I f the dimension is approximately 1-5/8 inches,
the cam gear w i l l have to be rotated.
(5) A t t a c h a socket to the vibration damper mount-
ing bolt and rotate engine u n t i l the 1-15/32 i n c h
dimension is attained.
(6) I n s t a l l the sensor into the t i m i n g case/cover
w i t h a slight rocking.action. Do not t w i s t t h e sensor
into position as damage to the o-ring m a y result.
Push the sensor a l l the way into the cover u n t i l the
rib material on the sensor contacts the camshaft gear
(Fig. 30).

(8) Connect sensor w i r i n g harness to engine har-
ness.
When the engine is started, the r i b m a t e r i a l w i l l be
sheared off the face of sensor.- This w i l l automatically
set sensor a i r gap.
CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR
A heat shield covers the crankshaft position sensor
(Fig. 34). The sensor is located i n the middle o f the
r i g h t side of the cylinder block, j u s t above the o i l p a n
(Fig. 35).
REMOVAL
• ••
(1) Disconnect electrical connector from crankshaft
position sensor.
(2) Remove sensor m o u n t i n g bolt.
(3) Remove the heat shield.
(4) P u l l sensor out engine block. D o n o t p u l l o n
the s e n s o r l e a d . T h e ' sensor has an O - r i n g seal
which m a y make removal difficult. A l i g h t t a p to top
of sensor may ease removal.
INSTALLATION
(1) A p p l y a couple drops of clean engine o i l to the
O - r i n g seal.
(2) Slide the sensor into the side of t h e engine
block.
(3) I n s t a l l heat shield on sensor.
(4) I n s t a l l a n d tighten the m o u n t i n g bolt to 2 3
N-m (200 i n . lbs.) torque.
(5) Connect t h e electrical connector to the sensor.
