• Check the attaching l i n k m o u n t i n g points at the
stabilizer bar and lower control a r m to be sure the
mounting nuts are tight. I f required, t i g h t e n the nuts
to the specified torque.
TOE LINK
Inspect the rear toe l i n k assemblies for any loose-
ness at the flex j o i n t , - and for damaged flex j o i n t
boots. Inspect the rear toe l i n k outer tie rod for loose-
ness, and for any damage or deterioration of the tie
rod seal boot. I f either of these conditions exist, the
rear toe l i n k assembly must be replaced.
R E M O V A L A N D I N S T A L L A T I O N
SHOCK ABSORBER
REM0WE
(1) Raise vehicle on jackstands or centered on a
frame contact type hoist. See H o i s t i n g i n the L u b r i -
cation and Maintenance section of this manual for
the required lifting procedure to be used for this
vehicle.
(2) Remove rear wheel and tire.
(3) Remove the n u t and bolt m o u n t i n g the shock
absorber clevis to the mounting bracket/isolator on
the lower control a r m (Fig. 15).

(4) Remove the bolt and n u t attaching the shock
absorber to the frame bracket (Fig. 16).
(5) Remove the shock absorber/coil spring assem-
bly from the vehicle out through the center of upper
rear control arm.

(3) I n s t a l l the top of the shock absorber into the
frame bracket (Fig. 16). I n s t a l l the shock absorber to
frame bracket bolt (Fig. 16). D O N O T T I G H T E N

(4) I n s t a l l the wheel and t i r e assembly.
(5) Tighten the
wheel m o u n t i n g stud nuts
i n
proper sequence u n t i l a l l nuts are torqued to h a l f
specification. Then repeat the tightening sequence to
the full specified torque of 122 N - m (90 ft. lbs.).
(6) Lower the vehicle to ground from jack stands
or hoist.
(7) Position vehicle on an alignment rack.
(8) Set the vehicle to design height. See Design
Height Setting Procedure i n this group of the service
manual.
(9) Once
at
design
height,
torque, the
shock
absorber upper mounting bolt to 135 N - m (100 ft.
lbs.).
(10) Torque the shock absorber lower mounting
bolt to 189 N - m (140 ft. lbs.).
(11) Remove the ballast weight from the vehicle.

REMOVE
(1) Remove the center cap from the rear wheel.
(2) Remove the cotter p i n , n u t lock, and spring
washer from the axle yoke (Fig. 17).
