LIFTGATE
REMOVAL
(1) Release t r u n k latch and raise liftgate.
(2) Support liftgate on prop rod.
. ( 3 ) Using a suitable m a r k i n g device, m a r k position
of liftgate studs on liftgate hinge.
(4) Remove support cylinders from liftgate.
(5) W i t h aid of a helper to support the liftgate,
remove nuts attaching hinge to liftgate.
(6) Remove liftgate from vehicle.

INSTALLATION
(1) W i t h aid of a helper, position liftgate to the
vehicle.
(2) Loosely install the nuts to attach liftgate to the
liftgate hinges.
(3) A l i g n liftgate hinge studs to marks made on
hinges.
(4) Tighten nuts to attach liftgate to liftgate
hinges.
(5) Verify t h a t the liftgate is properly aligned to
the roof panel. Refer to the body gaps listed i n the
Specifications section of this group.

(6) I n s t a l l support cylinders to the ball studs on
liftgate.
(7) Verify liftgate operation. Adjust as necessary.
LIFTGATE HINGE
R E M O V A L
(1) Release liftgate latch and open liftgate.
(2) Support liftgate on a suitable prop rod.
(3) Place tape along roof panel near the hinge to
be removed.
(4) Remove t r u n k t r i m panel.
(5) Remove headlining as necessary to access bolts
attaching liftgate hinge to the sport bar.
(6) Using a suitable m a r k i n g device, m a r k the
location of the liftgate studs on the liftgate hinge.
(7) Remove nuts attaching liftgate hinge to the
liftgate. (Fig. 70).
(8) Remove hinge cover.
(9) Remove bolts holding liftgate hinge to sport bar
and retrieve any shims found between the hinge and
sport bar.
(10) Remove liftgate hinge from vehicle.

INSTALLATION
(1) Position liftgate hinge on vehicle.
(2) Position any shims retrieved d u r i n g removal
between the hinge and the sport bar. Install the bolts
to attach the hinge to the roof panel.
(3) Loosely install the nuts to hold the hinge to the
liftgate.
(4) A l i g n the liftgate studs to the marks made on
the hinge.
(5) Tighten the nuts attaching liftgate to the lift-
gate hinge.
(6) Install hinge cover.
(7) Install headlining.
(8) Install t r u n k t r i m panel.
(9) Verify liftgate operation and alignment. Adjust
as necessary.
