Install park brake cable into tunnel panel
(Fig. 137) Insert park brake cable into tunnel panel
hole u n t i l retainer tabs are expanded out past sup-
port plate. P u l l on park brake cable to ensure i t is
locked into t u n n e l panel.

I n s t a l l the 2 clips attaching the park brake
cable to the frame crossmember and rear frame r a i l
(Fig. 127).

Lower vehicle.

I n s t a l l rear p a r k brake cables into equalizer
on p a r k brake mechanism (Fig. 135). Be sure the
lugs on the end of the park brake cables are squarely
seated against the equalizer.
(8) Unload and adjust p a r k brake cables using the
following procedure. Insert a 7/32 inch alien wrench
into hex socket and t u r n counter-clockwise through
approximately 15° of rotation (Fig. 134). I n t u r n i n g
lockout device, self adjuster release is a loud snap-
ping noise followed by reaching a more felt t h a n
heard detente. Very light effort is required to seat
lockout a r m into detente. Follow through to the
detente is important i n preventing the lockout rod
from r a t t l i n g .

Operate park brake mechanism several times
to ensure proper operation. Also be sure t h a t the rear
park brake cables are not binding w h e n released.

I n s t a l l the console assembly and park brake
lever boot over park brake lever. Then install console
assembly on tunnel area of vehicle, w i t h the rear of
the console positioned as high as possible.

Thread shift knob onto shifter u n t i l t h e i r is
adequate thread engagement, and knob is correctly
positioned. Securely tighten the shift knob to shifter
retaining j a m n u t (Fig. 133).

Lower the console assembly onto the t u n n e l
u n t i l correctly positioned i n the vehicle. Align the
console assembly screw holes w i t h holes i n t u n n e l
and i n s t a l l and securely t i g h t e n the 2 screws (Fig.
132).

Connect w i r i n g harness connectors to the fog
lamp switches and lighter assembly (Fig. 131) on the
bezel. Be sure the connectors are fully installed on
terminals.

A l i g n m o u n t i n g clips on heater, radio and
console bezel, w i t h clip' attaching holes i n instrument
panel and console assembly. Carefully push or tap
around edge of bezel, u n t i l a l l bezel m o u n t i n g clips
are locked into i n s t r u m e n t panel and console assem-
bly.

I n s t a l l ash t r a y assembly into opening i n
bezel. I n s t a l l the ash t r a y assembly to console assem-
bly attaching screw and securely t i g h t e n (Fig. 129).

I n s t a l l driver side and passenger side lower
i n s t r u m e n t panel fascias (Fig. 128). I n s t a l l the 6
screws attaching each lower fascia to the i n s t r u m e n t
panel and t u n n e l of vehicle.
(17)
Reconnect the (-) negative battery cable to
the negative battery post. Reset any electrical compo-
nents on vehicle affected by disconnecting the bat-
tery.

REMOVE
(1) Depress and hold down the brake pedal while
r o t a t i n g the stop lamp switch (Fig. 140) i n a counter-
clockwise direction approximately 30 degrees.
(2) P u l l the switch rearward to remove i t from its
m o u n t i n g bracket.
(3) Disconnect the w i r i n g harness connector from
stop l a m p switch.

e x t e n d e d p o s i t i o n u s i n g p r o c e d u r e in s t e p S t e p 1.
(1) H o l d stop lamp switch f i r m l y i n one hand.
Then using other hand, p u l l o u t w a r d on the plunger
of the stop lamp switch u n t i l i t ratchets out to its
fully extended position.
(2) Connect the w i r i n g harness connector to the
stop lamp switch.
(3) M o u n t the stop l a m p switch into the bracket
using the following procedure. Depress the brake
