REMOVAL
(1) Disconnect and isolate the battery negative
cable. I f the airbag module is undeployed, w a i t two
minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before
further service.
(2) Remove center instrument panel bezel.
(3) Disconnect power window switch connectors.
(4) Remove five screws to left knee bolster.
(5) Remove five screws to r i g h t knee bolster.
(6) Using a paperclip, remove headlamp
switch
knob.
(7) Remove
upper
and
lower steering
column
shrouds.
(8) Remove complete instrument panel cover/bezel.
(9) Remove two screws to radio from the instru-
ment panel as described i n Group 8F, Audio Systems.
(10) Remove four screws to HVAC control head.
(11) Disconnect electrical and vacuum connectors
but leave temperature control cable connected and
move aside.
(12) Reach
through the
radio opening i n
the
instrument panel and u n p l u g the A i r b a g Control
Module wire harness connector.
(13) Remove the three nuts securing the A i r b a g
Control Module (ACM) to the mounting bracket on
the floor transmission t u n n e l (Fig. 4).
(14) Slide the A C M out t h r o u g h the radio opening
i n the instrument panel.
INSTALLATION
For installation, reverse the above procedures. Do
not connect the battery negative cable at this time.
Refer to Diagnosis and Testing for Airbag System
Test procedures.
(1) When installing the A C M , position the u n i t
w i t h the arrow on the module housing pointing for-
w a r d .
(2) A t t a c h the A C M to the transmission t u n n e l
m o u n t i n g bracket studs w i t h the three nuts. Tighten
the nuts to 10.7 N - m (95 i n . lbs.).
(3) Connect the wire harness connector into the
A C M , ensure t h a t the connector is fully-seated and
the locking tabs are engaged.
