Compressor
assembly
must
be
removed
from
mounting. Although, refrigerant removal is not nec-
essary.
(1) Remove the compressor shaft bolt (Fig. 12). A
band type o i l filter removal tool can be placed around
the clutch plate to aid i n bolt removal.

(2) Tap the clutch plate w i t h a plastic hammer and
remove clutch plate and shim (Fig. 13).

(3) Remove pulley r e t a i n i n g snap r i n g w i t h Snap
Ring Pliers (C-4574), and slide pulley assembly off of
compressor (Fig. 14).
(4) Remove coil w i r e clip screw and w i r e harness.
(5) Remove snap r i n g r e t a i n i n g field coil onto com-
pressor housing (Fig. 15). Slide field coil off of com-
pressor housing.
(6) Examine frictional faces of the clutch pulley
and front plate for wear. The pulley and front plate
should be replaced i f there is excessive wear or scor-
ing. I f the friction surfaces are oily, inspect the shaft
nose area of the compressor for o i l and remove the
felt from the front cover. I f the compressor felt is sat-
urated w i t h o i l , the shaft seal is leaking and w i l l
have to be replaced.

(7) Check bearing for roughness or excessive leak-
age of grease. Replace pulley assembly as required.
INSTALLATION
(1) A l i g n p i n i n back of field coil w i t h hole i n com-
pressor end housing, and position field coil into place.
Make sure t h a t lead wires are properly routed, and
fasten w i t h the w i r e clip r e t a i n i n g screw.
(2) I n s t a l l field coil r e t a i n i n g snap r i n g w i t h Snap
Ring Pliers (C- 4574). The bevel side of the snap r i n g
must be outward. Also both eyelets must be to the
r i g h t or left of the p i n on the compressor. Press snap
r i n g to make sure i t is properly seated i n the groove.
