joint. I n s t a l l sealing boot as far as possible on the
ball j o i n t assembly.

squarely against lower control arm.
(11) I n s t a l l the lower control a r m on the stud of
the lower ball j o i n t . I n s t a l l the castle n u t on lower
ball j o i n t stud (Fig. 51) Tighten the castle n u t to a
torque of 183 N - m (135 ft. lbs.). I n s t a l l lower ball
j o i n t n u t cotter p i n (Fig. 51).

(13) I n s t a l l the stabilizer bar attaching l i n k into
the lower control arm. I n s t a l l the stabilizer
bar
attaching l i n k attaching n u t (Fig. 48). Tighten the
stabilizer bar attaching l i n k n u t to a torque of 22
N-m (200 i n . lbs.).
(14) I n s t a l l the wheel and t i r e assembly. Tighten
the wheel mounting stud nuts i n proper sequence
u n t i l a l l nuts are torqued to h a l f specification. Then
repeat the tightening sequence to the full specified
torque of 122 N - m (90 ft. lbs.).
(15) Lower the vehicle to the ground.
(16) Position the vehicle on an alignment rack.
(17) Set the vehicle to design height. See Design
Height Setting Procedure i n this group of the service
manual.
(18) Once
at
design
heght,
tighten the
shock
absorber lower mounting bolt (Fig. 50) to a torque of
189 N - m (140 ft. lbs.).
(19) Remove the ballast (weight) from the vehicle.
Correctly jounce the vehicle l e t t i n g i t r e t u r n to its
curb height.
(20) Measure the vehicles curb height to verify i t
is w i t h i n specification. See Curb Height Setting Pro-
cedure i n this group of the service manual for the
required procedure.
KNUCKLE
REMOVE
(1) Remove the center cap from the rear wheel.
(2) Remove the cotter p i n , n u t lock, and spring
washer from the axle yoke (Fig. 55).
(3) W i t h the weight of the vehicle supported by the
tires and the p a r k i n g brake applied, loosen, b u t do
not remove, the yoke to hub/bearing mounting n u t
(Fig. 56).
(4) Raise the vehicle on jackstands or centered on
a frame contact type hoist. See Hoisting i n the L u b r i -
cation and Maintenance section of this manual for
