As a n example: the compression length of the
spring to be tested is 33.34 mm. (1-5/16 in.). T u r n
table of Special Tool C-647 u n t i l surface is i n line
w i t h the 33.34 m m (1-5/16 in.) m a r k on the threaded
stud and the zero m a r k on the front. Place spring
over s t u d on the table and lift compressing lever to
set tone device. Pull on torque wrench u n t i l p i n g is
heard.

instant. M u l t i p l y this reading by two. This w i l l give
the spring load at test length. Fractional measure-
ments are indicated on the table for finer
adjust-
ments. Refer to specifications to obtain specified
height and allowable tensions. Discard the springs
t h a t do not meet specifications.

INSPECTION
Inspect the cylinder head covers and gaskets for
cracks or broken areas around fastener holes t h a t
may cause a oil leak. Replace gasket i f necessary.
OIL PUMP
CLEANING

Clean a l l parts thoroughly. M a t i n g surface of the
chain case cover should be smooth. Replace pump
cover i f scratched or grooved.
INSPECTION
AND
R E P A I R
(1) L a y a straightedge across the pump cover sur-
face (Fig. 85). I f a 0.076 m m (0.003 in.) feeler gauge
can be inserted between cover and straight edge,
cover should be replaced.
(2) Measure thickness and diameter of rotors. I f
either rotor thickness measures 18.92 m m (0.744 in.)
or less (Fig. 86), or i f the outer rotor diameter is
82.45 m m (3.246 in.) or less, replace rotor set.
(3) Slide outer rotor into CCC, press to one side
w i t h fingers and measure clearance between rotor
and CCC (Fig. 87). I f measurement is 0.19 m m (0.007
in.) or more, and outer rotor is w i t h i n specification,
replace CCC only.
(4) Install
inner rotor into CCC. I f clearance
between inner and outer rotors (Fig. 88) is 0.150 m m
(0.006 in.) or more, replace rotor set.
