h o r n s w i t c h w i r e from t h e c l o c k s p r i n g to t h e
h o r n s w i t c h w i r e of the a i r b a g module ( F i g . 17).

T h e f a s t e n e r s , s c r e w s , a n d b o l t s , o r i g i -
n a l l y u s e d f o r t h e a i r b a g c o m p o n e n t s 'are s p e c i f i -
c a l l y d e s i g n e d f o r t h e a i r b a g s y s t e m . T h e y m u s t n o t
b e r e p l a c e d w i t h a n y s u b s t i t u t e s . A n y t i m e a n e w
f a s t e n e r i s n e e d e d , r e p l a c e i t o n l y w i t h t h e c o r r e c t
f a s t e n e r s p r o v i d e d i n s e r v i c e p a c k a g e s o r w i t h f a s -
t e n e r s l i s t e d i n t h e p a r t s b o o k .
(30) I n s t a l l t h e airbag module i n steering wheel.
I n s t a l l t h e 3 o r i g i n a l o r c o r r e c t r e p l a c e m e n t air-
bag module attaching bolts. Tighten the airbag mod-
ule attaching bolts to a torque of 10 N - m (90 i n . lbs.).
C A U T I O N :
W h e n r e c o n n e c t i n g b a t t e r y o n a v e h i c l e
t h a t h a s h a d t h e a i r b a g m o d u l e r e m o v e d , e n s u r e
n o o c c u p a n t s a r e i n t h e v e h i c l e a n d t h e f o l l o w i n g
p r o c e d u r e i s u s e d .
(31) Reconnecting of the battery negative cable is
to be done using the steps i n the procedure listed
below.
© Remove forward console or cover as necessary.
• Connect D R B scan tool to A S D M
diagnostic
6-way connector, located at r i g h t side of t h e A S D M
module.
• T u r n ignition key to O N position. E x i t vehicle
w i t h the D R B scan tool. I n s t a l l the latest version o f
the proper diagnostic cartridge into the D R B scan
tool.
• E n s u r i n g t h a t t h e i r are no occupants I n the
vehicle, connect negative cable to negative post of the
battery.
• U s i n g the D R B scan tool read and record active
fault codes. Also read and record any stored fault
codes. Refer to the Passive Restraint Diagnostic Test
M a n u a l i f any faults are found.
• Erase stored faults i f there are no active fault
codes. I f problems remain, fault codes w i l l not erase.
• F r o m the passenger side of the vehicle, t u r n
ignition key to OFF and then O N observing i n s t r u -
ment cluster a i r bag lamp. I t should go on for six to
eight seconds, then go out. This w i l l Indicate t h a t the
air bag system is functioning normally.
(32) I f a i r b a g w a r n i n g l a m p fails to light,
b l i n k s o n a n d off or goes o n a n d s t a y s on, t h e r e
i s a n a i r b a g ' s y s t e m m a l f u n c t i o n . Refer to the
Passive Restraint Diagnostic Test M a n u a l to diag-
nose the system malfunction.
(33) Test the operation of the horn, lights and any
other functions t h a t are steering column operated. I f
applicable reset the radio and the clock.
(34) Road test vehicle to ensure proper operation
of the steering system and the speed control system.
