REMOVAL
(1) Raise vehicle on hoist.
(2) Remove fill plug located on side of the differen-
t i a l carrier. Install a fluid transfer pump into fill p l u g
hole. Remove (draw out ) the fluid from the axle.
Allow the axle to d r a i n completely.
(3) Remove the rear axle from the vehicle.

b o l t s i n c o r p o r a t e a L o c t i t e p a t c h for retention o n
initial installation. T h e s e
screws
m u s t b e r e p l a c e d
with n e w p i e c e s or c l e a n e d a n d L o c t i t e t h r e a d
l o c k e r r e a p p l i e d w h e n e v e r t h e y a r e r e m o v e d .
C A U T I O N : R e p l a c e both drive s h a f t a n d a x l e s h a f t
u n i v e r s a l joint s t r a p s w h e n e v e r t h e y a r e r e m o v e d .
T h e s t r a p s slightly deform w h e n t o r q u e d in p l a c e .
R e u s e of the s t r a p s m a y r e s u l t in r e d u c e d c l a m p
load o n the u n i v e r s a l joint c a p .
(4) Remove rear cover plate.
(5) Remove output shaft snap rings (Fig. 9). Then
p u l l out output shafts from carrier.

(6) Remove bearing cap bolts. Note the markings
stamped on the bearing caps (Fig. 10) so that the
caps can be installed i n the same position as they
were removed.

(7) Install differential carrier spreader (Special
Tool W-129-B). The use of adapters (Kent-Moore
J-24385-20) w i l l be required when using spreader
(Fig. 11).
