1. C h e c k for correct oil level. Adjust oil level by
draining or a d d i n g a s n e e d e d .
2. C h a n g e oil. Refer to Engine Oil Service in
this g r o u p .
3. C h e c k e n g i n e oil level. If O K , p e r f o r m oil
pressure test. Refer to this g r o u p for e n g i n e oil
pressure test/specification.
4. C l e a n / r e p l a c e hydraulic tappets/lash
adjusters.
5. R e p l a c e p u s h rod(s) a s necessary.
6. Replace w o r n rocker a r m s a n d inspect oil
supply to rocker a r m s .
7. R e p l a c e hydraulic tappets/hydraulic lash
adjusters.
8. R e a m a n d install n e w v a l v e s with oversize
s t e m s .
9. G r i n d v a l v e seats a n d v a l v e s .

1. Insufficient oil supply.
2. L o w oil p r e s s u r e .

6. M i s a l i g n e d c o n n e c t i n g rods.
1. C h e c k e n g i n e oil level. Refer to G r o u p 0,
Lubrication a n d M a i n t e n a n c e .
2. C h e c k e n g i n e oil level. If O K , perform oil
pressure test. Inspect oil p u m p relief v a l v e a n d
spring. Refer to this g r o u p for e n g i n e oil
pressure test/specification.
3. C h a n g e oil. Refer to Engine Oil Service in
this g r o u p .
4. M e a s u r e bearings for correct c l e a r a n c e .
Repair a s necessary.
5. Replace crankshaft or grind j o u r n a l s .
6. R e p l a c e bent c o n n e c t i n g rods.

pressure test. Inspect oil p u m p relief valve a n d
spring. Refer to this g r o u p for e n g i n e oil
pressure test/specification.
3. C h a n g e oil. Refer to Engine Oil Service in
this g r o u p .
4. M e a s u r e bearings for correct clearance.
Repair a s necessary.
5. C h e c k N o . 3 bearing for w e a r o n f l a n g e s .
6. G r i n d j o u r n a l s or replace crankshaft.
7. Inspect crankshaft, f l y w h e e l , a n d bolts for
d a m a g e . Tighten bolts to correct t o r q u e .
