the surface of the spring from corrosion and other
damage.
When i n s t a l l i n g a coil spring on a shock absorber,
the round end coil (Fig. 3) must be installed on the
spring seat of the shock absorber, while the flat end
coil (Fig. 3) m u s t be towards the removable upper
spring seat.

The rear upper control a r m used on the Viper is. a
h i g h strength a l u m i n u m casting (Fig. 4). The upper
control a r m contains the rear upper ball j o i n t , which
is threaded into the upper control arm. The ball j o i n t
is not a replaceable component of the upper control
arm. The ball j o i n t grease seal, though, is a replace-
able component of the upper control a r m .
The upper control a r m is attached to the rear
knuckle of the vehicle using a tapered stud w h i c h is
part of the upper ball joint.
The upper control a r m is mounted to the upper
frame r a i l of the vehicle using 2 rubber isolator bush-
ings. The upper control a r m bushings are replaceable
components of the upper control a r m assembly.

The rear lower control a r m used on the Viper is a
h i g h strength a l u m i n u m casting (Fig. 5). The lower
control a r m is attached to the rear lower frame r a i l

using cammed through-bolts i n rubber isolator bush-
ings. The rubber isolator bushings are pressed into
the lower control a r m . The cam bolts are used to
make the camber and caster adjustments on the rear
suspension of the vehicle.
The outer end of the lower control a r m has a
tapered hole to accept the stud of the lower ball j o i n t ,
w h i c h is part of the rear knuckle. The lower control
a r m also has a tapered hole used for the attachment
of the rear stabilizer bar l i n k to the lower control
a r m . The lower control a r m also has a bracket bolted
to i t containing the isolator bushing for the clevis of
the rear shock absorber. The replaceable components
of the rear lower control a r m are the isolator bush-
ings and the m o u n t i n g bracket for the rear shock
absorber.

BALL JOINT UPPER
The upper ball j o i n t (Fig. 6) is threaded into the
upper control a r m and uses a tapered stud for
attachment of the ball j o i n t to the knuckle. The
