REMOVAL
(1) D r a i n Cooling System. Refer to D r a i n i n g Cool-
i n g System i n this section.
(2) Remove air cleaner assembly.
(3) Remove Poly-V drive belt. Refer to accessory
drive belt removal outlined i n this section.
(4) Remove bolts attaching power steering o i l
cooler to front crossmember and set cooler aside.
(5) Remove lower radiator and coolant r e t u r n
hoses at water pump.
(6) Remove crankshaft pulley and disconnect cam-
shaft position sensor electrical connector.
(7) Remove water pump pulley attaching bolts.

(8) Remove pump m o u n t i n g screws (Fig. 15).
Remove pump.
N O T E : Water p u m p i s r e m o v e d b e t w e e n t h e front
u p p e r c r o s s m e m b e r a n d p o w e r s t e e r i n g gear.

(9) Remove and discard water pump gasket.
(10) Clean gasket surfaces on pump and chain
case cover. Take care not to scratch or gouge sealing
surface.

(1) I n s t a l l new gasket (Fig. 16).
(2) T h e w a t e r p u m p p u l l e y m u s t be posi-
t i o n e d (but not attached) on p u m p before w a t e r
p u m p i s i n s t a l l e d to c h a i n c a s e cover. I n s t a l l
pump to chain case cover. Tighten screws to 41 N - m
(30 ft. lbs.).
(3) Rotate pump by hand to check for freedom of
movement.
(4) Position pulley on pump. I n s t a l l screws and
tighten to 23 N - m (200 i n . lbs.).
(5) I n s t a l l crankshaft pulley and t i g h t e n attaching
bolts to 23 N - m (200 i n . lbs.).
