Symptom Troubleshooting Index

When the vehicle has one of these symptoms, check for a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) with the HDS. If there is no
DTC, do the diagnostic procedure for the symptom, in the sequence listed, until you find the cause.
HDS does not communicate with the VSA modulator-
control unit or the vehicle
VSA activation indicator does not come on at start-up
(bulb check)
VSA activation indicator does not go off, and no DTCs
are stored
ABS indicator, brake system indicator, and VSA
indicator do not come on at the same time
ABS indicator, brake system indicator, and VSA
indicator do not go off at the same time

Symptom
Diagnostic procedure
Troubleshoot the DLC circuit (see page 11-208).
1.
Do the gauge control module troubleshooting
(see page 22-312).
2.
Update the VSA modulator-control unit if it does not
have the latest software (see page 19-140), or
substitute a known-good VSA modulator-control unit
(see page 19-141), then retest. If it is OK, the VSA
modulator-control unit was updated, troubleshooting
is complete. If the VSA modulator-control unit was
substituted, replace the original VSA modulator-
control unit (see page 19-141).

2.
Update the VSA modulator-control unit if it does not
have the latest software (see page 19-140), or
substitute a known-good VSA modulator-control unit
(see page 19-141), then retest. If it is OK, the VSA
modulator-control unit was updated, troubleshooting
is complete. If the VSA modulator-control unit was
substituted, replace the original VSA modulator-
control unit (see page 19-141).
