2. Remove the reservoir cap 2 and O-ring
3, and then check the fluid level in the
reservoir. WARNING! Make sure that
the PTT ram is fully extended when
removing the reservoir cap.

TIP:
If the fluid is at the proper level, a small
amount of fluid should overflow out of the
filler hole when the reservoir cap is removed.
3. If the fluid is below the proper level, add
the recommended fluid up to the proper
level.
Recommended PTT fluid: ATF Dexron II
4. Install a new O-ring and the reservoir cap
2, and then tighten the reservoir cap 2
to the specified torque.
Reservoir cap 2:
7 N·m (0.7 kgf·m, 5.2 ft·lb)

Checking the PTT operation

1. Tilt the outboard motor to the fully up and
down positions a few times and check
the entire tilt range for smooth operation.
Check the PTT fluid level if the tilt opera-
tion is not smooth.
TIP:
Make sure that the PTT motor makes a wind-
ing sound when it is operating smoothly.
2. Tilt the outboard motor to the fully up
position, and then support it with the
stopper knob 1 to check the lock mech-
anism of the stopper knob.

3. Check the PTT unit for fluid leakage.

Adjusting the shift cable

1. Remove the shift cable, and then adjust
it. See "Installing the shift cable and
throttle cable (remote control model)" (3-
13).

Checking the spark plug

1. Check the spark plugs. See "Checking
the spark plug" (7-45).

Checking the timing belt

1. Check the timing belt. See "Checking the
timing belt and sprocket" (7-24).

Replacing the timing belt

1. Replace the timing belt. See "Flywheel
magnet and timing belt" (7-21).

Checking the thermostat

1. Check the thermostat. See "Checking the
thermostat" (7-52).
Adjusting the throttle link rod and
throttle cable
1. Adjust the throttle link rod. See "Adjusting
the throttle link rod" (6-17) (tiller handle
model) or "Adjusting the throttle link rod"
(6-20) (remote control model).
2. Adjust the throttle cable. See "Installing
the shift cable and throttle cable (remote
control model)" (3-13) or "Adjusting the
throttle cable (tiller handle model)" (9-6).

Checking the top cowling

1. Check the fitting by pushing the top cowl-
ing. Adjust if there is free play.
