3. Disconnect the special service tool cou-
pler b.
4. Measure the charge coil resistance.
Charge coil resistance (reference data):
Green/Red (G/R)–Black/Red (B/R)
28.9–39.1 Ω at 20 °C (68 °F)
5. Remove the special service tool 1, and
then connect the charge coil coupler.

Checking the CDI unit

Before measuring the CDI unit, make sure to
check the charge coil and pulser coil.
1. Measure the CDI unit output peak volt-
age.

TIP:
• When measuring the output peak voltage
under the cranking condition, disconnect
the all spark plug caps from the spark plugs
to prevent the engine from starting.
• Do not remove the clip from the engine
shut-off switch.
• When pulling the starter handle to crank the
engine, the voltage values may vary
depending on the speed at which the
starter handle is pulled. (Manual starter
model)

Checking the thermo sensor

1. Remove the manual starter and driven
sprocket cover. See "Removing the man-
ual starter" (7-7). (Manual starter model)
Remove the flywheel magnet cover and
driven sprocket cover. (Electric starter
model)
2. Disconnect the thermo sensor coupler
a, and then connect the special service
tool 1.
3. Start the engine, and then measure the
thermo sensor 2 input voltage.
