Operation during malfunctions
When the fluid pressure in the PTT cylinder is more than the specified limit, the protection valves
(absorber valve pins) 5 and 6 will open to force the fluid out of the cylinder and to return it to the
reservoir and prevent damage to the cylinder. The protection valves open at 25.0 MPa (250.0 kgf/

When the outboard motor hits something in the water
When the outboard motor is tilted up after colliding with an object while operating, an upwardly
directed force is applied to the tilt ram. This force increases the fluid pressure in the tilt cylinder
upper chamber, causing the 5 piston absorbers 8 to start operating to prevent damage to the PTT
unit. For returning, the 1 piston absorber 9 operates to return the piston to the position of the free
piston 0. The piston absorbers open at 8.3 MPa (83.0 kgf/cm
