4. Install the water inlet covers 1 and trim
tab 2 (high thrust model), and then
tighten the inlet cover screw 3 to the
specified torque.
Inlet cover screw 3:
1 N·m (0.1 kgf·m, 0.7 ft·lb)
5. Place the lower unit in water, and then
start the engine.
6. Check for water flow at the cooling water
pilot hole. If there is no water flow, check
the cooling water passages inside the
outboard motor.

Checking the engine idle speed

1. Install the special service tool 1 to spark
plug wire #1 a.
2. Start the engine and warm it up for 5–10
minutes.
3. Check the engine idle speed. Adjust if
out of specification.

Engine idle speed: 925–1025 r/min
4. Turn the throttle stop screw b in direc-
tion c or d until the specified engine
idle speed is obtained.

TIP:
• To increase the engine idle speed, turn the
throttle stop screw b in direction c.
• To decrease the engine idle speed, turn the
throttle stop screw b in direction d.
5. Rev the engine a few times.
6. Stop the engine, and then remove the
special service tool.

Changing the engine oil

The engine oil should be extracted with an oil
changer.
Change the engine oil after the first 20
hours of operation or 3 months, and every
100 hours or at 1-year intervals thereafter.
