Checking the manual starter

1. Check the starter plunger 1, drive pawl
2, and drive plate 3. Replace if cracked
or damaged.
2. Check drive pawl spring 1 4, drive pawl
spring 2 5, and the springs 6 and 7.
Replace if bent, cracked, or damaged.

3. Check the sheave drum. Replace if
cracked or damaged.
4. Check the starter handle. Replace if
cracked or damaged.
5. Check the starter rope. Replace if dam-
aged.

TIP:
When replacing the starter rope with a new
one, make sure that the length is approxi-
mately 2100.0 mm (82.7 in).

Checking the spiral spring

1. Check the spiral spring. Replace if bent,
cracked, or damaged.

Assembling the manual starter

1. Install the grommet 1, start-in-gear pro-
tection cable 2, starter plunger 3, and
springs 4 and 5.

2. Install the spring 6, drive pawl spring 2
7, and drive pawl 8, and then tighten
the screw 9 to the specified torque.
3. Install the starter rope 0, and then install
the starter handle A.
