3. Move the tilt lock lever 1 to the lock
position b, slightly tilt the outboard motor
up, and then fully tilt it down. Check that
the outboard motor tilts down smoothly
and automatically locks in the fully tilted
down position.

Test run

1. Start the engine, and then check that the
gear shift operates smoothly.
2. Warm up the engine, and then check the
engine idle speed.
3. Operate at trolling speed.
4. Operate the outboard motor according to
the break-in procedure.
5. Check that the outboard motor does not
tilt up when the shift lever (tiller handle
model) or remote control lever (remote
control model) is moved to the R position
and that water does not flow in over the
transom.
6. Check that the PTT operates smoothly
while the outboard motor is running.
TIP:
The test run is part of the break-in operation.
Starting the engine (manual starter
model)
Use the following procedure when restarting
a warm engine.
1. Move the shift lever to the N position.
2. Turn the throttle grip until the location a
on the throttle grip is aligned with the
mark b on the tiller handle.

TIP:
• If the throttle grip is turned too far, the
engine speed will increase rapidly, causing
the outboard motor to swing to starboard.
• Do not turn the throttle grip repeatedly to
the fully open and fully closed positions
before starting the engine. Otherwise, the
spark plugs will become wet from the fuel
that is sent from the acceleration pump,
making it difficult to start the engine.
3. Secure the throttle grip by tightening the
throttle friction adjuster 1.
4. Pull the manual starter handle and start
the engine.
5. After the engine starts, slowly return the
manual starter handle to the original
position before releasing it.
6. Loosen the throttle friction adjuster 1,
and then turn the throttle grip to the fully
closed position. WARNING! Make sure
to loosen the throttle friction adjuster.
If there is too much resistance, it
could be difficult to turn the throttle
grip, which could result in an acci-
dent.
