Checking the steering operation
(tiller handle model)
NOTE:
Lubricate the swivel bracket before checking
the steering operation.
1. Move the steering lock lever 1 to posi-
tion a and check that the steering is
locked.
Move the steering lock lever 1 to posi-
tion b and check that the steering oper-
ates smoothly.

2. Adjust the self-locking nut 2 until steer-
ing operation is properly.
Checking the tilt operation (manual
tilt model)
1. Fully tilt the outboard motor up and down
a few times and check the entire tilt
range for smooth operation. Check the tilt
mechanism if necessary.
NOTE:
To check the tilt operation, see "Checking the
tilt system (manual tilt model)" (1-17).

1. Fully tilt the outboard motor up and down

a few times and check the entire tilt
range for smooth operation. Check the
power tilt fluid level if necessary.
NOTE:
• To check the power tilt fluid level, see
"Checking the power tilt fluid level" (3-13).
• Be sure to listen to the winding sound of the
power tilt motor for smooth operation.
2. Fully tilt the outboard motor up, and then
support it with the tilt stop lever to check
the lock mechanism of the lever.
Checking the power tilt fluid level
1. Fully tilt the outboard motor up, and then
support it with the tilt stop lever.
WARNING
After tilting up the outboard motor, be
sure to support it with the tilt stop lever.
Otherwise, the outboard motor could sud-
denly lower if the power tilt unit should
lose fluid pressure.

2. Remove the reservoir cap 1, and then
check the fluid level in the reservoir.
