1. Place the outboard motor in an upright
position. NOTICE: If the outboard
motor is not level, the oil level indi-
cated on the dipstick may not be
accurate.
2. Start the engine and warm it up for 5–10
minutes.
3. Stop the engine and leave it off for 5–10
minutes.
4. Remove the oil filler cap 1. Pull out the
dipstick 2 and use the oil changer 3 to
extract the oil completely.
5. Fill the engine with the specified amount
of the recommended engine oil through
the oil filler hole. Install the filler cap 1
and dipstick 2. NOTICE: Overfilling the
oil could cause leakage or damage. If
the oil level is above the upper level
mark, extract until the level meets the
specified capacity.

Recommended engine oil:
4-stroke motor oil with combinations of
the following SAE and API oil classifica-
tions:
API: SE, SF, SG, SH, SJ, SL
SAE: 5W-30, 10W-30, 10W-40
Replacement engine oil quantity
(at periodic maintenance):
without oil filter replacement:
1.4 L (1.48 US qt, 1.23 lmp qt)
6. Leave the outboard motor off for 5–10
minutes.
7. Remove the dipstick 2 and wipe it clean
with a rag.
8. Insert the dipstick 2 and remove it
again. Make sure to completely insert the
dipstick into the dipstick hole. Otherwise,
the oil level measurement will be incor-
rect.
9. Check the oil level using the dipstick 2
to make sure that the level falls between
the upper level a and lower level b.

10. Start the engine and check that the oil
pressure alert indicator goes off. Also,
check that there is no oil leakage.
NOTICE: If the oil pressure alert indi-
cator comes on or if there is oil leak-
age, stop the engine and find the
cause. Continued operation with a
problem could cause severe engine
damage.

Checking the engine oil level

1. Check the engine oil level. See "Check-
ing the engine oil level" (10-4).
