Lesson 2 – Setting Up the Waveform Generator
• NOP
• RPT
• LOOP
• HALT
NOTE
NOTE
The AWG supports the following instructions:
The sequencer executes the next instruction as soon as it has finished
generating the waveform specified in the NOP command line.
The sequencer repeats the generation of the waveform specified in the RPT
command line a number of times. After that, it executes the next instruction.
After generating the waveform specified in the LOOP command line, the
sequencer jumps to the sequence sub label and repeats several command
lines a number of times. After that, it executes the next instruction.
The sequencer pauses the sequence program flow after the waveform
generation specified in the HALT line is finished. Then, the sequencer waits
for the next trigger.
At the end of sequence program flow, HALT must be used to stop the
sequencer program execution.
Sequencer Instructions for an AWG
NOP stands for Next OPeration, that is, the next sequencer
instruction will be executed without another trigger signal.
NOP and HALT instructions are very similar the corresponding
instructions used for running a digitizer (see also "How to Edit the
Command Line" on page 186).
NOP continues after execution, HALT executes and then waits for
the next trigger. At the end of the sequencer program, a HALT
instruction must be used to stop the program execution.
After the waveform generation of a HALT command line has finished,
the AWG holds the last level of the waveform.
REPEAT instructions allow you to generate one waveform
repeatedly.
LOOP instructions allow you to repeat not only the current but
several preceding instructions which may reference several
waveform labels and thus generate several different waveforms.
A loop instruction therefore requires a jump address in the
sequencer memory. This address is called branch address, sub-
label, or sub-program.
