Degassing the Sample
Most solid materials absorb moisture and other contaminants when exposed to the
atmosphere. The sample must be clean when an analysis is performed. The sample is heated
and placed under vacuum to remove moisture and other contaminants. This process is
referred to as degassing the sample. Degassing the sample is easy and virtually automatic if
your ASAP 2020 analyzer is equipped with the SmartVac degassing system. The procedure is
as follows:
1. While holding the degas port plug, remove the connector nut and plug from the degas port
by turning the connector nut counterclockwise.
2. Place the degas port connector nut, ferrule, and O-ring onto the sample tube set as shown
in the following figure.
