Installing the ASAP 2420 1-mmHg Transducer Option
This document contains instructions for installing the 1-mmHg Transducer option only or for
installing both the 1-mmHg transducer and micropore options on an ASAP 2420 analyzer.
Follow the set of instructions that applies to the customer's system.
Tools Required
The following tools are required for installation of the transducer option:
•
1/2-in. wrench
•
9/16-in. wrench
•
3/4-in. wrench
•
Phillips screwdriver
•
Small flat-blade screwdriver
Installing the 1-mmHg Transducer Option Only
This set of instructions describes how to install the 1-mmHg Transducer option on an ASAP
2420 system equipped with the Micropore option.
1. Backfill the manifold to 760 mmHg.
2. Close the ASAP 2420 software.
3. Turn off power to the vacuum pumps and to the analyzer.
4. Remove the four retaining screws from the top panel of the ASAP 2420.

The 10-mmHg transducer must be removed from the top of the old transducer block and installed on the front of the new block, and the 1-mmHg transducer must be installed on top of the new block.

To remove the 10-mmHg transducer, first disconnect the 10-mmHg transducer ribbon cable from the J8 connector on the transducer board (P/N 202-17706-001). 8. Use a wrench to loosen the nut that connects the 10-mmHg transducer to the transducer block.
  • Page 4 Installing the 1-mmHg Transducer Option Only ASAP 2420 1-mmHg Transducer Option 10. Use a wrench to loosen the nuts that connect the transducer block to the manifold tee connectors and to the gas inlet line, then remove the block. Remove connector nuts 11.

Screw Front and rear ferrules (under nut) Lock washer Spacer Connector nut Rear ferrule Front ferrule New Block Use new spacers, ferrules, screws and lock washers from the upgrade kit.

  • Page 7 ASAP 2420 1-mmHg Transducer Option Installing the 1-mmHg Transducer Option Only 18. Install the 10-mmHg transducer, with new front and rear ferrules, in the front of the transducer block. Use the connector nut you removed earlier; tighten the nut securely with a wrench.

Select Unit [n] > Show Instrument Schematic > Enable Manual Control. 1-mmHg transducer 10-mmHg transducer 27. Open valves 7 and 8. Make sure the 1-mmHg and 10-mmHg transducer readings are displayed on the schematic.

Use a wrench to tighten the nuts that connect the transducer block to the manifold tee connectors and to the gas inlet line. Tighten connector nuts 15. Place the connector nut, and front and rear ferrules on the 1-mmHg transducer.

The filter and O-ring can be used with the new port fittings unless either is damaged. A damaged filter or O-ring should be replaced with a new one.
