Rear bevel gear set and differential - Troubleshooting
Problem
Noisy rear axle when the
tractor is moving and
also when transmission
in neutral (not originating
from final drives)
Noisy rear axle with
tractor under load and
upon release
Noisy rear axle with
overheating
Rear axle system - Rear bevel gear set and differential
Possible Cause
1. Pinion and/or ring gear bearing wrong
adjustment
2. Excess differential side gears to half-
shaft spline backlash
1. Excess bevel pinion to ring gear back-
lash
2. Fault or defective inner components
1. Insufficient pinion and/or ring gear bear-
ing backlash
2. Insufficient bevel pinion to ring gear
tooth backlash

Correction
Remove rear axle housing and adjust pin-
ion and ring gear bearings correctly
Remove rear axle housing and replace
damaged parts
Remove rear axle housing and adjust bevel
pinion and ring gear bearings correctly
Remove rear axle housing, replace worn
parts and adjust differential gear backlash
correctly
Remove rear axle housing and adjust bevel
pinion and ring gear bearings correctly
Remove rear axle housing and adjust ring
gear bearings correctly
