GP 5 Portable Work Station and Tools
Purpose
To describe the PWS diagnostic tools.
Description
The PWS Diagnostic Tools are:
Alternate Boot Tool.
Counter Retrieval.
Network Configuration.
Network Controller Logging.
NVM Save and Restore.
Software Upgrade.
Alternate Boot Tool
The AltBoot procedure erases the customer Optional Services (Network Scanning; E-Mail;
Internet Fax; Network Accounting; Server Fax; Hard Disk Overwrite; Xerox Standard Account-
ing (XSA). Check with the customer, that they have the necessary codes to enable their
Optional Services and that they can restore any configuration information for the installed
options.
The Alternate Boot Tool (AltBoot) is a tool to download the software to the network controller if
the software on the network controller has become corrupt. Refer to GP 4 Software Loading
Using AltBoot.
A diagnostic menu is available in the AltBoot tool. Access to the diagnostic menu is during the
AltBoot Process - Stage 1. Select the Diagnostics Menu from the Main Menu.
The AltBoot diagnostic menu has the following options:
1.
Test Memory.
2.
Display POST Results.
3.
Exit Diagnostic Menu.
Select the required option number to start the test or to exit from the AltBoot diagnostic menu.
NOTE: Do not perform the tests available in the AltBoot diagnostic menu unless instructed to
by the service manual.
Counter Retrieval
Use this tool to save the billing counters information to file. The file includes details of regis-
tered fault codes, plus a list of the last 40 fault codes.
Network Configuration
Network Configuration is used to manage network systems. This tool displays the state of the
network settings
