SNMP (S

SNMP is a request-and-response protocol that is used in the transfer of network
management information between two or more network entities. SNMP plays a
vital role and serves as the nervous system of the entire network management
system. Network management is about keeping the network up and running and
monitoring, and controlling the devices in the network using conventional network
technology.
Local management and remote management are the two ways of managing a
device connected to a network. Local management demands human intervention
where the managed object is situated. This becomes cumbersome when the
network devices are numerous and widespread. Managing such a system
becomes tedious and quite impossible. In such a situation, SNMP is used to
manage the network remotely.
Using a workstation, running one or more SNMP management applications, you
can monitor and manage network devices running SNMP agent. This information
is used to establish the functioning of the network and also to identify the
problems in the network.
