STERN DRIVE ENGINES

It is important that you read the engine manual carefully
and become completely familiar with the operation as well
as required maintenance procedures on the engines and
related propulsion systems.

REMOTE CONTROL OVERVIEW

Regal features dual binnacle style remote controls on the
3760. The port (left) control handle operates the port
engine shift and throttle positions. The starboard (right)
control handle operates the starboard engine shift and
throttle positions.
All remote controls feature a neutral detented position
for starting the engines. A neutral safety switch prevents
the engine from starting in gear. Engines will not crank
over unless the remote control shift handle is in neutral.
At that point the neutral safety switch permits current
to pass through to the starter solenoid for cranking over
the engine.
Some controls make a clicking noise at the neutral detent
position while others feature a distinct "crush" in the
remote control handle when neutral is found.
At the outside base of each remote control handle is a
small button. It is called a "throttle only button." See the
illustration. Press in the "throttle only" button and you
will be able to advance the throttle without engaging the
gear shift. This feature is useful when trying to start a
cold engine because of the ability to adjust the engine
speed to starting conditions. As the engine starts and idles
smoothly you can return the throttle to the neutral
detented position at which point you will hear the
"throttle only" button pop out after which you can then
shift the drive unit into forward or reverse.
Notice that each engine has designated power trim and
trailer functions controlled by switches normally mounted
on the remote control box along with a dash gauge(s)
that allows you to change and monitor trim angle. Do
not confuse the power trim with the trim tab switch
located on the dash panel.

The trailer switch raises the outdrive beyond the trim el-
evation. This feature is especially useful when inspecting
or changing the drive propellers or hardware. Operate the
trailer function only when the boat is stopped in the wa-
ter or the engine could overheat from a lack of water be-
ing picked up by the stern drive. This control positions
the trim switches for both engines on the port control
handle for ease of operation. See illustration A.
CAUTION
!
NEVER SHIFT THE CONTROL HANDLES
WITH THE ENGINE STOPPED
AS SHIFT OR DRIVE SYSTEMS
COULD BE DAMAGED.
