STEPS TO V-DRIVE DOCKING

Twin-screw V-drive vessels can be maneuvered in tight
quarters which is always a plus in winds, currents, or busy
marina environments. Depending on the conditions, stop
the boat in front of the dock slightly to windward or up
current.
The rudder can be used as needed. Use the
examples below as a guide since each situation can be
unique.
It may be necessary to switch "starboard" for "port" and
vice versa. In the following instance, both throttles are in
idle as backing begins.
As the boat begins to back, it will track in a port direction.
By moving in a forward direction with the port engine the
boat will be forced to turn and align with the dock. When
you reach a comfortable alignment, the port engine is put
in reverse which will allow continued backing to the dock.
Some adjustment in tracking can be realized by putting
either control momentarily in neutral or forward. Going
forward on the port engine pushes the stern to port; the
starboard engine going forward pushes the stern to
starboard. Again, keep your calm and do not overreact to the
situation.

A. Stop forward motion with the starboard engine in reverse; the stern will
begin a port movement. Continue backing up, with the starboard and port
engine throttles in the idle postition.

B. As the stern backs and you enter the dock, go ahead with the port engine
to line up the boat with the dock.

C. As the boat aligns with the dock, put both engines in reverse; keep
backing into the dock. If you put either engine in forward, the stern will
move in the same direction.

B. When the boat is fully in the dock insert both engines in forward gear
momentarily to stop all stern motion. Secure the boat.
