Volvo-Changing V-Drive Engine Oil

Changing engine oil and filter at the recommended
maintenance periods is one of the most important aspects
of long engine life.
To change the engine oil and filter do the following:
1. Run the engine at idle speed until the temperature gauge
reads normal engine temperatures.

2. Turn off the engine and remove the ignition keys.
3. Remove the dipstick. There is a special fitting on the
dipstick tube used to connect a hand or electric suction
pump.
To remove filter turn in a counterclockwise direction.
4. Remove engine oil with the suction pump. Be sure to
disconnect the pump and close the fitting securely.
5. Using a filter wrench remove the oil filter by turning it
counterclockwise. Be sure to use a container to catch the
oil and dispose of properly.. Wipe off the oil filter engine
base.
6. Apply a small amount of fresh oil to the new oil filter
gasket and thread it on the shaft in a clockwise direction.
Use a filter wrench to tighten the filter. Normally 3/4 to
1 turn after the filter contacts the base will provide a
leakfree position. Do not overtighten the filter.
7. Remove the oil cap and fill the engine crankcase with
manufacturer's recommended oil. Do not overfill the
crankcase.
8. Install the dipstick and the oil cap.
9. Start the engine. Check immediately for any oil leaks
at the oil filter.
10. Remove the oil dipstick and wipe it off with a clean
cloth. Reinsert the dipstick and pull it out. Make sure the
oil is between the 2 marks. Add as needed.
