MERCRUISER GASOLINE RECOMMENDATIONS

Unleaded Gasoline
Use only unleaded fuel with a minimum of 87 octane.
89 or 92 octane fuels will provide increased engine
performance in the United States and Canada..
Mid-grade and premium fuels use injector cleaners and
additives that protect the fuel system and provide higher
performance.
NOTICE
ENGINE DAMAGE RESULTING FROM THE
USE OF A LOWER OCTANE GASOLINE
THAN 87 (R+M) /2 IS CONSIDERED MISUSE
OF THE ENGINE AND WILL NOT BE
COVERED BY THE ENGINE WARRANTY.
NOTICE
DO NOT USE GASOLINE CONTAINING
METHANOL. SERIOUS ENGINE DAMAGE
COULD RESULT FROM THE CONTINUED
USE OF METHANOL FUEL.
ANY ENGINE DAMAGE WILL NOT BE
COVERED BY THE ENGINE WARRANTY.
Whenever possible only use alcohol-free gasoline to
eliminate the effects of alchol in gasoline. If alcohol
blended fuels are used increased system inspections for
leaks and fuel system failures are mandatory. Contact your
closest authorized MerCruiser dealer for more
information.
Cosmetic Care & Maintenance
Alcohol Enhanced Gasoline
An increasing number of gasolines sold today contain
alcohol. Ethanol and methanol are 2 of the most common
alcohol additives.
Your marine engine may be operated using gasoline
blended with up to 10% ethanol with a minimum octane
rating of 87.
Using gasoline containing ethanol will result in a leaner
operating engine. This could cause engine problems such
as stalling at idle speeds, harder starting or vapor lock.
Ethanol enhanced fuels attract and hold moisture. Fuel
tanks containing moisture can cause corrosion of the tank
material. Inspect fuel system annually.
Leaded Gasoline
Do not use gasoline with leaded fuel additives since it
could block the fuel injectors and cause gasoline leakage.
Check with marinas before purchasing gasoline to find out
what additives are blended in their fuel mix.
Use a fuel stabilizer in the fuel system to prevent gum
formation and corrosion. When fuel is left in the tank
for more than a month or at winter storage time fill
the tank to prevent condensation entering the fuel
tank/system.
