V-DRIVE REMOTE CONTROL
SHIFTING-TYPICAL
All V-drive remote controls feature a neutral detented
position for starting the engines. A neutral safety switch
on the transmission prevents the engine from starting in
gear. Engines will not crank over unless the remote control
shift handle is in neutral. At that point the neutral safety
switch permits current to pass through to the starter
solenoid for cranking over the engine.
Some controls make a clicking noise at the neutral detent
position while others feature a distinct "crush" in the
remote control handle when neutral is found.
Before attempting to start the engines make sure the blower has
been running for at least 4 minutes and you have finished the
sniff test to detect gasoline vapors.
To use the stern drive remote controls follow these steps:
1. Make sure the remote control handles are in the neu-
tral detented position. Listen for the click or the "crush"
as the handles find neutral. See illustration A.
2. With the control handles in neutral advance the
throttles slightly. Do not fully advance the throttles as
fuel injection engines may become flooded.
3. Using the key switch crank over each engine until they
start. After the engines have started let them warm up
for 15 minutes or so. Be sure to monitor the gauges for
proper oil pressure and temperature during this warm up
period. As the engines reach normal operating tempera-
ture and they smooth out you can bring both remote con-
trol throttle handles to the minimum position. At this
position you are ready to shift into forward gear.

tration D.
3. For neutral position from reverse, push the control
handles forward. This will release the V-drives from re-
verse gear as soon as the neutral detent is found.

4. With the engines running
in neutral engage both shift
handles into the forward
gear position. At that point
you will feel the propellers
push the boat forward. See
illustration C.
Pushing the control handles
beyond the forward gear po-
sition will result in the
throttles increasing the en-
gine speed and revolutions
per minute which is shown
on the tachometers.
5. With the engines running
in forward or neutral engage
both shift handles into the
reverse gear position. At
this point you will feel the
propellers pulling the boat
aft.

sition will result in the
