MerCruiser V-Drive-Changing Engine Oil

Changing engine oil and filter at the recommended
maintenance periods is one of the most important aspects
of long engine life.
To change the engine oil & filter do the following:
1. Run the engine at idle speed until the temperature gauge
reads normal engine temperatures.
2. Turn off the engine and remove the ignition keys.
3. Remove the dipstick.
4. Remove engine oil with a suction pump. They can be
purchased at automotive stores.
fresh oil to the new oil filter gasket and thread it on the
shaft in a clockwise direction.
Tighten the filter. Normally 3/4 to 1 turn after the filter
contacts the base will provide a leak free position. Do
not overtighten the filter.
7. Remove the oil cap and fill the engine crankcase with
manufacturer's recommended oil. Do not overfill the
crankcase. See the illustration.
8. Install the dipstick and the oil cap.
9. Start the engine. Check immediately for any oil leaks
at the oil filter.

remove the oil filter by
turning it counterclockwise.
Be sure to use a container to
catch the oil and dispose of
in an environmentally
friendly manner. Wipe off
the oil filter engine base. See
the illustration.
6. Apply a small amount of

cloth. Reinsert the dipstick and pull it out. Make sure the
oil is up to but not over the full or OK range. Add as
required.
