Before attempting to start the engines make sure the
blower has been running for at least 4 minutes and you
have finished a sniff test to detect any gasoline vapors.
To use the stern drive remote controls follow these steps:
1. Make sure the remote control handles are in the neu-
tral detented position. Listen for the click or the "crush"
as the control handles engage the neutral detent. See il-
lustration A.

2. With the control handles in neutral push in the throttle
only button on each control handle. Advance the throttles
slightly. Do not fully advance the throttles as fuel injec-
tion engines may become flooded.
3. Start both engines. After the engines have started let
them warm up for 5 minutes or so. Be sure to monitor the
gauges for proper oil pressure and temperature during the
warm up period. As the engines reach normal operating
temperature and they smooth out you can return both
remote control handles to the neutral position. At this
position you are ready to shift into forward gear.
4. With the engines running in neutral engage both shift
handles into the forward gear position. At that point you
will feel the propellers pushing the boat forward.
Pushing the control handles beyond the forward gear po-
sition will result in the throttles increasing the engine speed
and revolutions per minute which is shown on the
tachometers. See illustration B.
5. For neutral position from forward, pull the control
handles aft until you locate the neutral detent.
