MerCruiser V-Drive-Changing Cool Fuel Module Folter

Generation 3 MerCruiser engines use a water cooled fuel
module to help eliminate vapor lock which is caused by a
combination of heat and vacuum. As the fuel system
vaporizes the gasoline a starving fuel condition develops.
This condition is most prevelant in alcohol blended fuels.
To check or change the fuel filter element do the
following:
1. Allow the engine to cool down. The engine
manufacturer recommends a 12 hour shutdown prior to
filter removal.
2. Disconnect the cool fuel module harness at the unit.
3. Energize the key to the start position and leave engaged
for 5 seconds. Turn the key to the "OFF" position.
4. Loosen each filter retaining screws from the module
unit. Do not remove the filter unit retaining screws from
the filter cap.
5. Pull up on the filter assemble handle to loosen the filter.
6. Drain all fuel into the module unit from the fuel filter.
7. Remove the filter cup from the filter cap by rotating
the filter cap clockwise while holding the filter cup.
8. Remove the water seperator fuel filter from the filter
cup and place it in a metal container. Later dispose of
filter in an environmentally friendly fashion.
9. Disposeof any debris and water in the filter cup.
10. Install a new water seperator filter in the cup. Push
down on the filter until completely seated.
