Volvo-Cleaning V-Drive Engine Flame Arrestor

The flame arrestor regulates the air into the engine. It
needs periodic inspection and cleaning.
Note: On the 8.1 be very careful when removing the flame
arrestor. There is an electronic throttle plate behind the
flame arrestor that features moving parts with sharp edges
that could cause injuries.
1. Remove the flame arrestor and clean in solvent. Be
sure to air dry the parts. Inspect for any damage. Replace
as necessary.
2. Reinstall flame arrestor. Make sure it is always fastened
securely in place and free from damage.
It must be tightly in place in case there is a backfire in the
fuel system. It prevents fuel vapors being expelled into
the engine compartment.

Volvo-Electric Fuel Pumps

The 8.1 engine features electronic fuel injection as
standard equipment. It delivers the correct amount of
fuel to the engine from idle to full throttle conditions. As
part of this system is a set of electronic fuel pumps.
A high pressure pump supplies fuel to the injectors. A
low pressure pump delivers fuel from the fuel tank to the
engine.
The fuel pumps require periodic maintenance. Before each
outing check for signs of fuel leakage. If leakage is
observed do not attempt to start the engines. Call a Regal
or Volvo dealer immediately for service.
Both fuel pumps are protected by a 20 amp fuse. See the
circuit breaker, fuse and relay box illustration. If a pump
does not function inspect the fuse first.
Note: Using alcohol blended fuels increases the corrosion
factor in the fuel system. Even closer monotoring of the
fuel system in general besides the fuel pumps is required.
