Generator- Pre-Start Procedure

To start the generator from either the engine compart-
ment or the ship's distribution panel do the following:
1. Make sure the generator seacock is in the "open" posi-
tion.
2. Make sure the generator fuel selector valve is on.
On diesel generators there is a fuel supply shut-off valve
located on the port fuel tank. Make sure it is in the"on"
position. before attempting to start the diesel generator.
3.. Operate the blowers for at least 4 minutes before at-
tempting to start the generator and check the engine com-
partment for gasoline fumes. Keep the blower on until
the generator is shut down.
4. At the ship's AC panel make sure the transfer breaker
is in the "OFF" position.
5. At the ship's DC distribution push the start toggle swith
"up" which will crank over the generator. Release the
toggle switch when the generator starts.
If you are starting the generator at the unit (engine com-
partment), push the "run" portion of the master switch
until the generator starts. Again, ensure that the breaker
located above the digital control is in up which is the
"on" position. See the illustration at the end of the chap-
ter for circuit breaker exact location.
6. Let the generator warm up by letting it run for several
minutes.
7. During this warm up period make sure there is water
exiting the generator exhaust located at the hullside.

Generator- Stop Procedure

To stop the generator from the unit itself or from the ship's
distribution panel do the following:
1. Turn all A/C equipment breakers to the "off" posi-
tion.
2. Push the transfer bar up and turn off the transfer
breaker.
3. Let the generator idle for a few minutes to cool the
unit down.
4. To stop the generator from the unit itself, flip the mas-
ter switch to the "off" position.
From the ship's distribution panel find the start/stop
switch. Push the switch down until the generator stops.
