STERN DRIVE PROPULSION-MAINTENANCE
ENGINE
Each engine package is unique and quite complex. A select
portion of basic maintenance items are covered in this
chapter including lubrication specifications and basic
periodic maintenance procedures. Because of the
advanced ignition and fuel injection systems used on
marine engines we recommend contacting a Regal dealer
for more of the detailed service requirements.

AVOID ENGINE DAMAGE!
FOLLOW ALL ENGINE BREAK-IN
PROCEDURES AS RECOMMENDED BY
THE ENGINE MANUFACTURER.
FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE BREAK-IN
PROCEDURE MAY VOID THE ENGINE
AND STERN DRIVE WARRANTY.

DO NOT RUN ENGINE
AT A CONSTANT RPM
FOR PROLONGED PERIODS OF TIME
DURING BREAK-IN PERIOD.
CHECK ENGINE OIL OFTEN.

Cosmetic Care & Maintenance
SAFETY FIRST
Be aware of the following safety information before
carrying out any engine maintenance:
1. Never carry out any maintenance on the engine if you
are unsure of how the procedure should be accomplished.
2. Always read and understand all safety labels and
information before attempting to do engine maintenance.
3. Stop the engine and turn off all battery switches and
remove all ignition keys from the switch.
4. Do not smoke or use a flame on board the vessel while
doing engine maintenance.
5. Make sure you are outfitted properly with tight fitting
clothes, hair tucked under a cap, and tools properly stored.
6. Ensure that the entire area is ventilated to allow a
constant flow of fresh air.
7. Ensure that all lift equipment is in good condition and
all chains and pulleys pull the engine straight up.
8. Make sure the engine is cool before performing engine
maintenance to avoid burns.
9. Make sure any parts are replaced with the exact marine
replacements. Do not substitute automotive style parts.
10.Read the engine manufacturer's manual and understand
it. Call for professional technical assistance if unsure of
the procedure or the consequences.
11. Always dispose of waste materials in an
environmentally friendly manner.
