BILGE/ENGINE COMPARTMENT

Always keep the bilge pumped out and free of
accumulated debris. If the engine compartment becomes
oily find the cause of the problem. It is usually related to
engine oil lines, oil filter or possibly a leaking gasket or O
ring.
A periodic bilge cleaning with a brush and a bilge cleaner
(purchase at a marina or supplier) will be helpful in
maintaining a clean and safe bilge since accumulated dirt
and fluids could cause someone to fall.
Check the fuel system including all hoses, tanks and
connectors for possible leaks and deterioration. A stained
area normally could suggest a hose or connection leak.
Inspect all wiring including connectors and hangers for
tightness. Clean fuel filters as suggested by the engine
manufacturer.
Check all engine and water/waste hoses for tightness and
deterioration. Tighten all hose clamps as needed.
Check all battery hardware and terminal connections. Fill
the battery cells with distilled water (wet-cell type only)
to the battery manufacturer's suggested level.
With stern drive propulsion check the transom area for
loose hardware and steering system parts. Look for any
rust stain areas which indicate a leak.
With inboard propulsion check the rudder for leaks along
with the driveshaft seals and any other hull fittings. Check
all hoses for deterioration.
Do not use any flammable products.
Cosmetic Care & Maintenance

BOTTOM PAINT

Bottom paint normally accumulates a bit of algae and
slime over a period of time even more so if the vessel is
not used. Most of this can be wiped off with a turkish
towel or a piece of rug while the boat is in the water.
Stay away from using a stiff bristle brush, wire brushes
or abrasive materials.
One way to inspect the bottom is to have the boat slinged
out. Make sure the straps are evenly lined up with the
sling markers on the deck. Look for scraps in the gelcoat
along with any damaged or worn propulsion hardware.
The hull bottom should be inspected annually, and
repainted if necessary by your Regal dealer.
