Volvo-Replacing V-Drive Engine Thermostat (Closed Cooling)

1. Loosen and remove the long 1 and short boat 2; save
for reuse.
2. Remove upper thermostat housing 3.
3. Remove O ring 4 and thermostat 5, gasket 6 from lower
thermostat housing 7. Discard gasket and thermostat.
Inspect O ring checking for nicks and any points of
seepage.
4. Clean thermostat housing surfaces where the gasket
makes contact. Use a gasket scraper as needed for this
job making sure all gasket material is removed. (Make
sure no material drops into the thermostat housing. One
way to do this prior to scraping, place a rag in the lower
thermostat housing.
5. Place the new thermostat, gasket, and O ring into the
groove in the lower thermostat housing.
6. Replace upper thermostat housing.
7. Install bolts and torque to 18-30 ft. lbs.
